Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

You can use most of Lake Erie Pulse, including live conditions, forecasts, alerts, the trip planner, and live cams, without an account. We collect personal information only in these cases:

Account information: your name, email address, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text). Optionally, a home port, favorite ports, watercraft details, alert preferences, and a profile photo.

Location: with your permission, the app uses your device location to show nearby conditions. Your location is only saved when you choose to save it: when you log a catch in CatchCast (you pick how precise) or save a spot in My Spots. Catch logs, catch photos, and saved spots are private to your account. We don't keep a history of where you go.

Push notifications: if you turn on alerts, the app registers a push notification token with us so we can send the marine and weather alerts you choose. Turning notifications off in the app or your device settings stops them.

Shop orders: when you buy from the shop, we collect your name, email, shipping address, optional phone number, optional gift note, and what you ordered. Payments are processed by Square (including Apple Pay and Google Pay). We never see or store your full card number.

Boat listings and inquiries: if you list a boat for sale, the seller name, phone, city, photos, and details you enter are shown publicly on the listing. If you send an inquiry about a boat, we collect the name, email, phone, and message you provide so we can pass it to the seller or dealer.

Usage data: we use Google Analytics on the website and in the app to understand which features get used. When you're signed in, this is linked to an internal account ID (not your name or email). We don't use ads, ad networks, or cross-app tracking.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To run the website and app: conditions, forecasts, alerts, live cams, trip planning, CatchCast, and My Spots
• To create and secure your account
• To send the alerts you turn on
• To process, ship, and support your shop orders, including receipts and tracking emails, and to show your order history in your account
• To show boat listings and pass along boat inquiries
• To send service emails (verification, password resets, order emails) and, only if you opt in, occasional updates that you can unsubscribe from anytime
• To understand usage and improve the product

3. Who We Share It With

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the service:

• Supabase (database, sign-in, and file storage) and Vercel (website hosting)
• Square to process shop payments
• Printful, our print partner, receives the name, shipping address, phone, and items on shop orders so it can print and ship them
• Resend to send account, order, and opt-in emails
• Google Analytics for usage measurement, and Expo to deliver push notifications to your device
• Anthropic to write plain-language boating summaries and trip briefings. We send the marine conditions and the trip details you enter (like destination and boat type), not your name, email, or contact details
• Boat sellers and dealers receive the inquiries you send them
• When required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of our users and the service

4. Public Data Sources

The conditions data in Lake Erie Pulse comes from public government sources, including NOAA's National Data Buoy Center, the National Weather Service, NOAA CO-OPS (water levels), NOAA GLERL (lake research data), the EPA's AirNow, and the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (radar). This data isn't personal information about you.

5. Cookies

The website uses essential cookies to keep you signed in and secure, and Google Analytics cookies to measure overall site usage. Your shop cart is saved in your browser so it's still there when you come back.

6. Keeping and Deleting Your Data

• You can view and update your account information anytime in the app or on the website
• You can delete your account yourself in the app (Profile, then Delete Account) or on our delete account page. This removes your account, preferences, catch logs, saved spots, and photos. Backups are cleared within 30 days
• Shop order records (what was bought, amounts, and shipping details) are kept as long as needed for taxes, accounting, and handling returns, even after an account is deleted
• You can opt out of marketing email anytime, and you can ask us for a copy of your data

7. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure sign-in through Supabase, encrypted storage of sensitive tokens on your device, and database access rules that keep your private data visible only to you. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

8. Children

Lake Erie Pulse is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

9. Changes

We may update this policy as the product changes. We'll update the date at the top, and post a notice on the website for significant changes.
